The youth theatre group of Chester Theatre Club are to perform their version of Gogol’s classic Russian satire on power, politics and corruption - The Government Inspector.

But the show - which can be seen on Wednesday and Thursday, July 16-17 - has been transferred from snowy St Petersburg in the 19th century to 1954 in St Chesterburg.

Everyone is getting excited by the anticipated visit of ‘Mr Wonderful’, the government inspector himself – a hugely important bigwig who could make or break Chesterburg.

In reality he’s just a jumped-up little clerk in Whitehall but Boris Bulski, the Mayor of St Chesterburg, is convinced that Mr Wonderful is none other than the government inspector in disguise.

And he’s come to uncover all their dirty little secrets.

The play will be staged at 7.30pm in the Salisbury Studio at The Little Theatre, Gloucester Road, Chester. Entrance is free and tickets available on the door.
