Chester is one of five places in the UK people would choose to take a romantic stroll, according to a national charity.

Around 15,000 people were asked by the Living Streets charity for everyday walking to nominate their favourite UK town or city romantic walks and five were chosen to be put forward for a public vote, with the results due to be announced in time for Valentine’s Day.

There were scores of nominations for romantic locations in the UK, but Chester made the shortlist as did Scarborough, London, Oxford and Glasgow.

Our city walls were described as ‘a lovely walk which takes in the cathedral and green areas around the city, and remains of roman buildings, a view of the canal and railway, not to mention the lovely shopping areas in Chester itself’.

Dave Taylor, North West Regional Director for Living Streets, said: “I’m really pleased to see Chester on the shortlist for this title. We had lots of nominations for walks across the region, including Blackpool and Lancaster – plus even more for Chester.

“This nomination can represent all the great urban walks available in the North West. Walking with a loved one, in a group or with family and friends can do wonders for people’s physical health and mental wellbeing.

“Hopefully people will be inspired to get out and do this walk for themselves or find a favourite walk of their own. ”

Voting opens on February 1 for one week with results being revealed just before Valentine’s Day. You can vote for Chester at www.livingstreets.org.uk
