Chester’s Grosvenor Museum is preparing to host its 11th Open Art Exhibition - presenting the best in contemporary art from the region and giving artists in the area a chance to show their work.

A total of £1,950 will be awarded in prizes. The first prize is £1,000, with a second prize of £500 and a third prize of £250. The Peter Oakley Award of £100 will be presented by Cheshire Artists’ Network.

Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to vote for their favourite work, and the Visitors’ Choice will win £100.

The exhibition will be selected by Dr Jeremy Turner, programme leader BA fine art at the University of Chester, artist Adrian Sumner and Peter Boughton, keeper of art, West Cheshire Museums.

The exhibition will be opened by Sally Tallant, artistic director, Liverpool Biennial.

Bringing in days are February 27-28. The exhibition will run from March 12 until June 17.

Cllr Stuart Parker, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s executive member for culture and economy, said: “The Grosvenor Museum’s Open Art Exhibitions are always very popular.

“Last time 228 artists submitted work and the exhibition was seen by more than 22,000 visitors. We all look forward to another successful exhibition being staged.”
