The puppet cast of an award-winning musical, which is being staged at a Chester theatre, have arrived in the city to join their human counterparts in rehearsals.

Tip Top Productions is staging the Broadway and West End smash hit Musical Avenue Q at the Forum Studio Theatre in Chester from March 6-15.

Written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, the outrageously funny show, which has been described as ‘Sesame Street with sex’, deals with coming of age and the problems, anxieties and trauma of entering adulthood.

Director Rob Stevens said: “The show is a huge challenge for any performer as not only do they have to learn their lines and the show's musical numbers but they also have to learn how to become puppeteers and bring the ‘Muppet’ like characters in the show to life.”

The show, which is full of hilarious songs, attained a cult following when it premiered on Broadway in 2003 during which time it won three Tony awards, followed by a successful transfer to the West End in 2006.
