This is the first year we have had to contend with the transfer window and it can be tough on part-time clubs like ours.

Our performances have been much better, but we do still need to improve our squad and that is what we will be trying to do over the coming weeks. We also have lads who have not been playing, so they may need to go out on loan like Craig Mahon to keep them up to speed while others may leave permanently to play more football.

I understand the reasons why the transfer window was introduced and I think it makes sense higher up the leagues. But I am not sure the transfer window is right for the Skrill Premier.

The league probably considers itself full-time now, but for us and the other part-time clubs the window can be difficult. Full-time clubs get their squads together in the summer and tend to be content with their lot.

But part-time players can be a little bit more hit-and-miss, and clubs like ours do not always have the same financial clout. We also have to deal with work and family commitments, so having some flexibility becomes very important.

There is a lot of work to be done to prepare for January and we have been out watching players and speaking to agents and managers for the past eight weeks or so.

I have said before that the fact we are in the minority as a part-time club in what is primarily a full-time league means we do not have the biggest pool of players to choose from.

But we have identified some targets who we would like to bring to the football club and we will try to move things forward as we get closer to January.

On another note, I would like to thank our supporters for creating an excellent atmosphere for the game against Luton Town.

It was fantastic to see the Swansway Chester Stadium so busy and that is how I would like to see the place every week.

I know that not every team will bring the same numbers as Luton and not every game will be as exciting, but I really do believe we should be making the Swansway  a fortress.

I think you could see that the support and the atmosphere lifted the players against Luton.

We only trained for an hour and a half before the game, whereas Luton have all week to work on things. I could see we had some tired bodies on the field towards the end and I genuinely believe that the crowd can help players fight through that.

Our next home game is the FA Trophy game against Barrow and I was delighted to see that the two clubs have agreed to reduce the prices for the game.

The FA Trophy is an important competition, both in terms of prestige and prize money.

Hopefully we can get another good crowd and recreate the noise we had against Luton.
