Widnes' new coach Lee 'Tank' McDermott has increased his arsenal with another signing - this time in the front row.

Kevin Morton joins brother Liam at the club after spells with West Park and Bangor.

'He is a very mobile prop forward with good ball handling skills,' said McDermott.

Wids have, meanwhile, announced details of their first pre-season friendly which will hopefully be followed by another.

Keen to build on their excellent pre-season work so far, the Heath Road side will play Collegiate at home on August 19.

They are also hoping to arrange another warm-up game for the following week - before the Lancashire Trophy trip to Oldham on September 2.

The season in South Lancs/Cheshire One opens on September 9, at home to Aspull.

Second and third team league fixtures have been unveiled.

After last season's promotion, Widnes 2nds have a tough start away at New Brighton and then Birkenhead Park before their first home game against Broughton Park.

Widnes 3rds, playing league rugby for the first time, entertain Ormskirk before making the short trip to Eagle and then playing host to Ashton-on-Mersey at home.

They also have a cup game at Garstang.
