NORTHWICH RC chairman Sam Naylor is to make a call to sport across Mid Cheshire to rally around their stricken prop John Blower.

Naylor and his club are launching a trust fund for John, who was left paralysed from the neck down in an accident during a scrum.

He has since been told he will not walk again but may get movement back in his arms.

Northwich's Christmas party on Saturday doubled as a fundraiser for the Blower family.

Naylor said: 'We had a tremendous turnout and made a good profit. I was amazed and delighted at the number of Park players who came along to show their solidarity and we have been overwhelmed with donations and offers of help.

'We have met with the RFU and they have given us advice. We will set up a trust fund and campaign for a, say, 12-month period to raise as much as we can.

'I see this going beyond North-wich and rugby union, to involve other sports and clubs. It will draw the sports community together.'

John and his wife Julie live at Alderley Road, Winnington, and have three children.

Northwich's New Year's Eve party at Moss Farm is another fundraiser and Naylor (01606 871547) has details. The 1st XV are at Wilmslow on Saturday.

WINNINGTON Park revived the President's XV v 1st XV annual challenge over Christmas and the clash ended 19-19. On Saturday, Winnington visit Stockport.
