AFTER last week's Lord Mayor's Show at Leigh East in the BARLA's GMB Union National Cup, Simmies flopped against mid-table opposition.
The shock result of the season in Mark Norris Building Services NWC League leaves aspirations of a fourth consecutive Premier Division title in the balance.
Simmies had opened the scoring with a well-worked try from Brian Capewell after good play from Neil Percival and Paul Roberts.
But on the last play of the first half, Rylands levelled with a try from Neil Evans, converted by Chris Forster - Simmies having spilled a high kick over their own line.
The Widnes side regained the lead when, from an astute kick, David Percival scored a try. Paul Roberts' conversion attempt struck an upright.
Rylands went in front, however, as sloppy tackling allowed Peter Leonard over for Forster to convert.
Roberts landed an equalising penalty with four minutes remaining.
But Rylands once more went ahead with a fine drop goal from Forster.
Simmies then refused the chance to square the game with a similar-attempt drop goal and were left regretting a decision to go for a try which never came.
Rylands touched down in the dying seconds through John Smith, Forster improving to complete a poor second half from the visitors..
Best for Simmies were Neil Percival, Paul Walsh and Brian Capewell.
This Saturday, Simmies travel to Barrow Island (meet 10.30am) while the seconds go to Accrington (meet 12.30pm). Both are 2.30pm kick-off games. nSimmies have been drawn at home to Hull Dockers in the last 16 of the GMB National Cup on Saturday March 3 (ko 2pm).
The Humbersiders knocked out Widnes St Marie's at Brentfield in the previous round.
