HALTON recorded an impressive away win over South Lancs-Cheshire Three rivals Runcorn.

Right from the off, the visitors from Liverpool Road took the ball to the home side.

After 20 minutes, the Halton pack provided a good ball and from a speculative chip on the blindside, wingman Gary Kelly scored in the corner.

From the restart, Meagher and Smith drove forward to allow tough-tackling Shingler to pin the home side in their 22.

From the resulting scrum, halfback Watt charged a kick down and pounced for a try, which Mellor converted for a 12-0 half-time lead.

The second half saw Halton face the stiff breeze and slope.

Eventually, after some very poor tackling, Runcorn got numbers out wide to go in at the corner.

Halton began setting the ball more fluently, allowing it to be spread through the backs.

From one such move, the pack rolled the ball to under the posts and Parker dived over.

The home side had once last push and again, from sloppy defence, Halton conceded a consolation try.

Halton now look forward to this week's crucial league match at Home to Douglas, ko 2.30pm.

All new players are welcome to training on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm.
