MUDDY, exhausted and victorious, the Chester Under 10s rugby savoured every second of their victory in the Wirral Tournament.
Despite the cold and wet conditions the Hare Lane boys played some excellent rugby.
They won all five of their pool matches, a solid defence allowing their opponents only a single try.
Powerful running by the forwards and slick passing by the backs saw Chester score more than 20 tries.
The final saw Chester play a spirited Hoylake side.
The game was tight early on, but once the forwards had gained control of the ball, Chester scored five unanswered tries to claim the trophy for the second year in a row.
The tournament triumph capped a fine 12 months which also saw Chester win the Manchester Plate and the Cheshire Cup (jointly with Wilmslow).
Chester’s development squad also played in the Wirral Tournament and competed very well against other clubs’ first teams.
U10s coach Phill Price said: “Many players will be pushing the established players for a place in the first team.”
