Ellesmere Port 24 Buxton 5

ELLESMERE Port are looking forward to a ‘new era’ of success after celebrating promotion for the first time in 10 years.

The Oilers are on the up after securing second spot in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three with a home win over Buxton on Saturday.

Port completed their league fixtures on the back of an amazing 16-match winning run.

Team manager Mark Davies said: “This promotion is the result of what is hoped will be a new era at the club.”

Knowing two points would be enough to move above Prenton and into the runners-up position behind champions Crewe & Nantwich, the Oilers had no thoughts of anything other than victory.

There were tries for veteran Paul Millington, James Callaghan and centre Pete Doyle.

Millington kicked all three conversions and also put over a penalty.
