Eagle 2nds 23 Christleton 15

A LATE breakaway try put the seal on a disappointing defeat for Christleton on Saturday.

The Chester visitors were trailing by only a point and throwing everything forward when they were hit on the counter attack.

Christleton had travelled to Warrington looking to build on the previous week’s win over Birchfield in Division Four West.

But persistent rain made the pitch heavy and allowed the Eagle forwards to dictate play.

The hosts led 10-3 at the break, then ill-discipline by Christleton let Eagle to go further ahead with a penalty in the second period. As the match wore on, Christleton began to release their talented back line and, following a period of sustained pressure, fullback Will Jones crossed in the corner.

Minutes later, MoM Geraint Jones scored a superb solo try, converted by Dave Taylor, to putŠChristleton 15-13 up. But Eagle edged back ahead with a penalty, before breaking clear at the death to register a late try.

Christleton are away to Merseyside Police this Saturday.

Helsby host local rivals Ellesmere Port in South Lancs/Cheshire Three this Saturday.
