TWO teams from Chester Rugby Club tasted victory at one of the area’s biggest tournaments.

The Caldy Festival sees leading clubs from across the region compete in a series of short 15-a-side matches.

Chester came out on top in two of the age groups at Caldy, winning the under 13 and U16 titles.

The U13s fought their way through the pool stage with strong wins over Ruthin and Anselmians.

They accounted for Wirral 20-0 in the semis before running out 17-0 winners over Caldy in the final, avenging their quarter-final defeat to the host club in the Cheshire Cup.

Chester’s try scorers in the tournament were Liam Eldridge (6), Stan Stanford (3), Dan Jones, Robert Goldsmith, Josh Shearman and Fin Wojtan.

After overcoming Waterloo and Caldy in a tough pool stage, Chester’s U16s saw off Sandbach 12-5 in the semi-finals.

They met Caldy again in the final – and the game was settled by just one try in favour of the Hare Lane visitors.

Chester’s scorers at the tournament were Charlie Craven (2), Rory Hardman and George Nott.
