Malvern 17 Chester 25

CHESTER gained revenge for their EDF Energy Intermediate Cup exit by toppling Malvern in Midlands One on Saturday.

Rob Foden’s men, who were unceremoniously dumped out of the cup at Malvern in November, made no mistake this time.

Chester took a 14-3 lead into the break, tries from Tom Foden and Chris Lewis cancelling out a home penalty. Foden converted both tries.

Chester continued in the same rich vein of form at the start of the second half, Foden kicking a penalty before a rare piece of wayward kicking saw him fail to add the extras to a Sean Green score.

Malvern hit back with a try, only for Foden to create a 15-point gap cushion for Chester with a penalty.

A converted score from the hosts was only a consolation as Foden’s men wrapped up the win, keeping their outside hopes of a play-off place alive.

Chester’s final match of the season is at home to Newport (Salop) a week on Saturday.
