THE nerves are sure to be jangling for Chester RUFC this weekend as they steel themselves for one final push for the play-offs.

A win for the Hare Lane outfit over visitors Newport this Saturday (3pm) – coupled with a win for Luctonians over Kenilworth – would be enough to see Chester finish second in Midlands One. That would secure them a play-off with the runners-up in North One – and the chance to play National League rugby next season in Three North.

Head coach Rob Foden said: “We are at home, we are in fine spirits and we have no intention of losing so our destiny is in the hands of others.

“We are looking forward to the game and hopefully there will be one more. Bring on Saturday!”

Chester, who won promotion to Midlands One last season while also lifting the EDF Energy Intermediate Cup at Twickenham, have been in fine form all season, particularly at home.

They lie third in the table, one place below Kenilworth and one above Luctonians. Wins for Chester and Luctonians this Saturday would see the sides finish level on 30 points for the season – but Chester’s superior points difference puts them in the driving seat for second.

A win for Kenilworth would spell the end of Chester’s dreams.
