WIDNES Rugby Union Club's efforts in building a club to be proud of have been applauded by the RFU's Merseyside development officer.
Martin Jones' praise follows the club reaping the double reward of a Seal of Approval from the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and a Club-mark from Sport England.
Junior section secretary Martin Griffiths and club secretary John Loughnane were instrumental in the club becoming only the second in Merseyside and fourth in Lancashire to secure an RFU Seal of Approval.
Their Sport England Clubmark was presented at the same time.
Martin Jones said: 'This is tremendous recognition for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes at Widnes RFC.
'The club is about creating an environment which people want to re-main part of, whether in a playing, coaching or volunteering capacity.'
* Home improvements and 35th birthday celebrations mean Moore RUFC have plenty to look forward to.
Pre-season training has resumed as the club prepares for its new first-team campaign in South Lancs-Cheshire League Division Two. Cheshire youth coach Alan Jacks is again in charge and looking to build on the progress made last season.
The forthcoming season will see Moore field a second team in Division Five of North West League South to intensify the level of competitive rugby at the club.
Moore will continue to be the training base for a number of Cheshire county youth teams, who are benefiting from the improved facilities at the club.
There are also plans to celebrate and commemorate the 35th anniversary of Moore's formation in November with a special game, which will see players of yesteryear being invited to attend to relive past glories.
Moore are on the lookout for new players of all ages and abilities, including those who have no previous experience of rugby.
Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the club in Moss Lane, Moore, from 7pm and 9pm - anyone interested in attending can simply turn up or telephone Moore RUFC, tel 01925 740473 and ask for any member of the committee. Further details are also available on the club website at moorerufc.co.uk
