SKIPPER Danny Potts is fit to lead Crewe and Nantwich's assault on the South Lancs and Cheshire League Division Two title.

The influential Potts was sorely missed last season as he sat out the majority of the campaign with a knee injury. But he has been training all summer and should be ready to lead the side in their opener at home to Duckinfield on Saturday, September 3.

Crewe and Nantwich will prepare for the first game with a friendly against Northwich at 2.30pm on Saturday. The visitors to the Vagrants Sports Ground, Willaston, should provide a good test after they narrowly survived in Division One last season.

Club spokesman Alan Jones said: 'It is important we start picking up points early on if we are to improve on third place, when we missed promotion by a whisker.

'Training has been well attended but, as usual at this time of year, week-to-week continuity has been difficult with holiday commitments. At this point, no new stars have joined the club, but it is hoped our large pool of cadets can be utilised.'

Andrea Reckeworth will be first team vice captain, while Matt Farr has stayed on as play-er/coach. The experienced Steve Taylor will captain the second team, with Paul McGarrigle and Rob Akam leading the thirds and fourths respectively.

Anyone interested in playing for Crewe and Nantwich Rugby Club is welcome to attend training, at the Vagrants Sports Ground at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
