SANDBACH soared to top of the league with a fourth straight win, on Saturday.

The Midlands Three West (North) was unknown territory to the Bradwall Road outfit before the start of the season, after they switched from the South Lancs/Cheshire as part of a restructuring of the rugby pyramid.

But they have found their feet quickly and are becoming a force to be reckoned with. Tim Oakes' men are joint top with Aston Old Edwardians.

Sandbach welcomed fit-again former captain Ray Jones into the centre and new recruit Tom O'Brien to fullback, and were on fire from the off.

Russ Dymond notched a quick-fire hat-trick and Ally Burton got a conversion. The hosts struck two successful penalties to make it 17-6 at half-time.

Kidderminster piled on the pressure after the restart, but a swift counter attack saw Dan Massey score a decisive try and, although Kidderminster hit back

with another two penalties, the result was never in doubt.

A team spokesman said: 'We need to take the forthcoming home opportunities to maintain the momentum and put the other teams under pressure to catch us.'

Sandbach 2nds lost 29-23 at Rossendale 2nds despite tries from Dan Adams, John Pemberton and Chris Dyer.

Manchester Wanderers 0 Crewe and Nantwich 26 A FINE performance got Crewe back on track with a fine win over Manchester, on Saturday.

Nick Price's men soon forgot last week's defeat at Wigan to put in a scintillating performance which took them to joint-top of the Euromanx South Lancs/Cheshire Division Two.

Tries from Tom Maguire, Andy Griffin, Rob Peters and Lee Gray contributed to the points which earned the win.

Crewe 2nds fought hard to overcome Burnage 2nds 19-13, with tries from John Cockburn and Tim Cowap, and the 3rds lost 39-19 at Old Bedians. The U15s only consolation in their 20-7 loss at home to Northwich was a Dave Jenkins try, converted by Scott Cann.

The U11s drew 0-0 and won 14-5 in their clash at Macclesfield, with two tries by Will Linde, both converted by Ben Telfer.
