SOMETHING has to give at Hare Lane tomorrow!

Hosts Chester will bid for their first North One victory of the season when rivals Whitchurch - who are also without a win - roll into town.

The north Shropshire outfit's inferior points difference sees them rooted to the foot of the table - just two places below Chester.

Steve Dorrington's men have been forced to reshuffle their back division as key man Paul Brett is unavailable.

Brett's absence means Jim Lyle will move to centre, while Matt Bebington returns to the team at number 10, Nick Aldersey goes to full-back and Shaun Green moves to the wing.

And if Chester are to notch up their first North One victory, they will need to avoid a repeat of the start they made at Westoe, of South Shields, last Saturday.

The visitors, playing up a steep slope in the first half, were 17-0 down in as many minutes.

Director of rugby Dorrington said: 'It was ridiculous. We were playing into a howling gale and Westoe just kicked into the corners. They really came at us in the first 20 minutes.'

Chester improved immeasurably for the final hour, with two Brett penalties giving them hope before the interval.

Matt Bellamy crossed for a second half try and Brett kicked a penalty as Chester edged to within three points of the home side.

Dorrington's men applied plenty of pressure but were unable to make their dominance pay. And they were further punished when Westoe added another try to seal a 22-14 win.

North One newcomers Whitchurch - who are coached by former Chester head coach Norman Stalker - go into tomorrow's game on the back of a 20-7 home loss to Birkenhead Park last Saturday.

Club president John Gregory said: 'Saturday's match is a real 'four-pointer' because Chester have also yet to win a match. We're all looking forward to it immensely.' n In South Lancs/Cheshire Four, Christleton went down 13-10 at Linley and Kidsgrove.

The Chester club's task was not made any easier by the late withdrawal of players, problems finding the oppositions pitch - they arrived only five minutes before kick-off - and a strength-sapping, heavy pitch.

Kidsgrove took a 10-5 lead into the break, Christleton's try coming from Ashley Salter.

Centre Chris Lightfoot levelled matters after the break, but the trusty boot of Dave Taylor failed with the conversion. Kidsgrove replied with a penalty to win the game.

Christleton's past play-ers will be having a pre-match lunch at the Ring o' Bells before tomorrow's home game against Port Sunlight (3pm kick-off).
