VIKINGS coach Neil Kelly has narrowed down his search for a new scrum-half but no-one will be signed before tomorrow's clash with St Helens.

Until a replacement is found, stand-off Stephen Myler will play in the vacant position.

Kelly became focused on finding a replacement scrum-half after the club granted a release to first choice Dean Lawford, who has since joined Batley. However, 24 hours later, Academy number seven Martin Aiscough suffered a broken leg in an under-21s game at Bradford Bulls.

Kelly believes former Saints junior Myler can do a good job but is stepping up the search for a permanent replacement.

He said: 'We have players in the club who we think can play there but who are not out-and-out scrum halves.

'We are in the process of narrowing down our search and speaking to players.

'Stephen understands the game and you can put him in any one of six or seven positions. He is now a member of the full-time squad and he is a player with a good future.'

Kelly believes a good performance against St Helens will go some way to getting the Viking's season back on track after a disastrous start to the Super League campaign.

And he admits that although he has little scope for widescale changes, some members of the squad will be playing for their futures.

He said: 'At this moment, St Helens is a perfect game for us because expectations are not that high. If we put in a good spirited performance against Saints it will improve morale in the team.

'We are looking for an indication that we are heading in the right direction once more.'

Aaron Moule looks likely to make his second performance in the black and white shirt after coming through his 80 minute debut against Huddersfield.
