AMBITIOUS Northwich have pulled off a triple signing - and are promising more to come.
The Moss Farm outfit, who are aiming for promotion out of South Lancs and Cheshire One for the first time, have taken two of their arch rivals' biggest stars.
Gary Bell, last season's top points scorer for Winnington Park, has switched allegiances while Richard Smith, Park's rising rugby league talent, has also 'jumped the fence' into Northwich's back row.
Joining the Park duo, and making his return to Northwich having spent last season at Chester, is powerful scrum-half Mike Gallimore.
First-team manager Rob Heath says capturing the players has been a real club effort.
He said: 'We're building on last season's success and as a club we're really moving forward. We're not an affluent club but with the money we have got, we wanted to get the best local talent and help them become part of a community club.'
In addition, Northwich are waiting to announce three more signings, this time as part of the club's exchange programme with South Africa.
Heath said: 'We should be able to announce something in two weeks.'
As part of the exchange, Northwich have sent Gareth Davies and Chris Dale to South Africa, where they are playing in the province of Natal.
Having been impressed by Northwich's drive to attract players to the club, fly-half Bell, 31, said the decision to move was an easy one.
'I'm really looking forward to it,' he said. 'The club are ambitious, they've got a great coaching set-up and the aim is to win the league and get promoted.'
Smith and Bell's departure from Burrows Hill will worry Park officials. But prolific goal-kicker Bell believes there is no bad blood between the two camps.
He said: 'I've spoken to the coach and the captain and there are no hard feelings. They've wished me well and I can't wait to get started.'
Meanwhile, Cheshire wingman Steve Campbell, 27, has turned down offers from Macclesfield, New Brighton and Chester to help Northwich with their push for the top.
Pre-season training has started at Moss Farm and the next session is tomorrow night, 7pm start. All newcomers welcome.
