CONGLETON started the stronger but it was Helsby who took the lead when fly-half Phil Gibson picked up a loose ball and ran 40 yards before offloading to Gordon Lilley, who touched down in the corner.

Helsby's pack then began to dominate and another try soon followed when flanker Martin Perry crossed, Andy Bache converting.

Congleton hit back with a try before the interval to make the score 12-7 to the Villagers.

The second half saw Helsby continue their good form.

A superb 30-yard break from Steve Turnbull leading to a John Williams try which Bache converted.

The visitors began to tire and when Williams exploited a gap in the visitors' defence he returned the compliment to Turn-bull who touched down. Bache once more added the extras.

Helsby wrapped the game up in the closing stages with Lilley and Williams adding further tries.

Bache crossed the line for one of his own before adding the extras.
