Ellesmere Port 3rds 31, Whitchurch 4ths 10: ELLESMERE Port's third team produced an inspired display as they overwhelmed Whitchurch's fourth team on Saturday.

Hadley's Heroes took centre stage after the match between Port's first team and Old Salians was called off when the visitors failed to show.

Third team captain Colin Hadley was delighted with the performance of his side, who have now won their last two matches.

He said: 'We were always in control and showed a great attitude and determination throughout the match.

'We've got a lot of great youngsters coming through and they showed great maturity against a strong side.

'It was a very good performance and I'm hoping we can now try and continue our unbeaten run.'

Port made a flying start and stormed into a dominant lead within the first 20 minutes.

Tries from Richard Butler and Steve Riley were added to by a conversion from Dan Weigh to give Port a 12-0 half-time lead.

The home side were keen to continue their dominance in the second period and Steve Riley added another try which was then converted by Dan Percival to extend the lead to 19-0.

Despite being second best for much of the match Whitchurch continued to battle and scored two unconverted tries to reduce the arrears to nine points.

However, Port regained their composure and clinched victory with tries from Mike Wilcock and Dave Tomlinson with another conversion from Dan Percival.

Port's first team face second-bottom Mossley Hill on Saturday, kick off is at 2.30pm.
