WIDNES RUFC have showed their intentions to achieve promotion back into North West Two at the first attempt, with the announcement of two further signings to boost their squad.

Stand-off Andy McIntosh, and experienced prop forward Derek Dyer have made the short journey from Halton RUFC to join the Heath Road club.

The two new recruits will provide the club with a larger squad of players to choose from, as well as providing valuable competition for places among the first team squad.

Head Coach, Lee McDermott is delighted with his new signings.

He said: 'I am absolutely thrilled that we have signed both players. Andy McIntosh is a big powerful stand-off with good hands, great vision and will give us plenty of go forward on the pitch.

He is also an outstanding goal kicker.

'Derek Dyer is a very experienced prop forward, and his knowledge and enthusiasm in the front row will provide us with just the right blend of youth and experience out there on the pitch.'

In the junior section, Martin Kerr has announced that the club will be hosting a training day with Sale Sharks on Sunday August 6 at 10.30am at Heath Road.

The event has been arranged to strengthen the links with the Guinness Premiership winners, and Peter Anglesea will be on hand along with 'Sharky', the club's mascot, to meet with the Wids kids.
