LIVERPOOL ST HELENS crashed to their fifth successive defeat to end their disappointing season second from bottom of National League North.

LSH took a seven-point lead and were still in contention at 14-17 in the second half, before fatigue took over and Macclesfield rammed in five tries in the last 25 minutes which yielded 31 points.

Sean Casey and Martin Gaskell scored tries for the visitors with Simon Worsley adding both conversions.

Bedford 22 Orrell 55: A five-try second-half blitz gave Division One runners-up Orrell an easy victory after they had only held a 24-19 interval advantage.

The success was spearheaded by 20-point winger Leigh Hinton, centre Rodd Penney and pack man Nick Easter.

Orrell's tries were scored by Hinton (2), Penney, Ben Lewitt, Simon Emms, Gavin Cattle, Richard Welding, Wade Kelly and Easter. Hinton added five conversions.

West Park 8 Birkenhead Park 22: Despite the encouragement of an early 8-3 lead, West Park couldn't prevent inform Birkenhead Park from winning this North One battle.

A solo try by scrum-half Darren Wilson and an Andy Soutar penalty gave West Park the start they wanted but after that it was all Birkenhead Park.

Chris Jones (2) and Chris Planchant scored their tries and Stuart Crampton knocked over two conversions and a penalty.

Widnes 10 Northwich 18: Cheshire/South Lancashire Division One champions Widnes had a rare off day and were clearly second best despite leading twice.

Gareth Riley and Steve Vickerstaffe worked hard as Widnes scored tries through Riley and Mike Lamb but it just wasn't enough for the much-changed side.

Congleton 15 Sefton 18: Sefton did well to win this Cheshire/South Lancashire Third Division clash after coming back from 15-5 down.

Sefton's tries were scored by Phil Evans and Phil Osborne. Evans added two penalties and a touchline conversion.
