FORMER Sandbach and Crewe youth star Mark Cueto blasted England's doubters after he inspired Saturday's 47-13 win over Wales.

The flying winger, who attended St Thomas More School as a kid and played for both Crewe and Sandbach's youth sides, set England on their way with his 10th try in 12 tests at Twickenham.

Now the Sale Sharks star has hit out at those who wrote off Andy Robinson's men.

He said: 'It was nice to prove to everyone we are capable of doing it.

'By no means did we expect the game to go the way it did, but we were confident of what we could do. It was almost as if we were the only ones who knew we were capable of it.'

England showed an array of skill with their tries, non more so than when Cueto cut an incisive line through midfield onto Jamie Noon's off-load for the opener.

Lewis Moody scored from a driving maul after a line-out and Lawrence Dallaglio charged over from a close-range scrum.

Second-half tries by Mike Tindall, Matt Dawson and Tom Voyce sealed the win for the World Cup winners who travel to Rome to face Italy on Saturday. nSandbach first XV did not enjoy the afternoon as much as their former clubmate. They were dumped out of the Cheshire Vase at the semi-final stage by Wirral.

Youngsters such as Dan Adams and Dan Butler were given a chance to shine, but the hosts proved too strong in their 15-0 victory.

A depleted second team lost 58-10 to Widnes in round three of the Halbro Trophy, while Newton le Willows could not raise a side to face Sandbach thirds. The fourths lost 15-0 in a friendly with Whitchurch.

Meanwhile, Crewe and Nantwich's third team took centre stage on Saturday, with the two more senior teams out of action.

Tom Maguire scored all the points in 10-0 over Macclesfield Vets. The fourths beat Birches Head 22-7.

The first team resume league duties away to Orrell Anvils on Saturday.
