Wigan 3rds 19 Christleton 17

CHRISTLETON started 2008 on a losing note, suffering a narrow defeat to a strong Wigan XV.

The Chester side started brightly, with Chris Lightfoot crossing for a try after Taylor had hit the upright from a penalty.

But the two-week lay-off seemed to take its toll and Christleton failed to capitalise on the early score.

Wigan took control in the line-outs and were rewarded with three tries – two of which were converted.

A Taylor penalty and conversion from Craig Young’s solo 40-yard try kept the score close, but Wigan held on for victory.

James Lutton was man of the match for Christleton. They entertain Birchfield tomorrow (2.30pm).
