ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC's youngsters produced some storming performances to secure a hat-trick of victories in the North West Regional Sportshall Championships held at Robin's Park, Wigan.
The club's U13 starlets Gemma Mayled, Abbie Kirk, Danielle Bentley and Sam Galley were all inspirational in the first of Cheshire's impressive triumphs.
Mayled cleared a new best of 1.30m to finish joint third in the high jump while Kirk won the four-lap title. Bentley hit 7.70m for third spot in the shot and Galley finished second in the two lap to clinch a team triumph for the girls' team.
Aidan Stoakley and Tom Booth were instrumental in Cheshire's U13 boys' success in their team event.
Stoakley won the two lap and speed bounce and pushed the 4x2-lap relay team to glory, while Booth finished second in the standing long jump.
The club's youngsters clinched a hat-trick of success of stories when the U15 boys trio of Gareth Preston, Michael Lyness and Matthew White steered the Cheshire line up to team success.
Preston finished fourth in the two lap, fifth in the standing long jump, third in the shot, and was part of the county team that won the 4x2-lap relay, while Lyness finished second in the standing triple jump, fifth in the four lap, fifth in the shot, and joined Gareth in the winning 4x2-lap relay squad.
White cemented the victory by delivering a victory in the four lap and leapt to fifth spot in the standing triple jump.
There were also notable performances from the U15 quartet of Rebecca Grimes, Daisy Flynn-Piercy, Shona Valentine and Kerry Riley, who were part of the county team that finished fourth.
Elsewhere, Carl Van Schie secured runners-up spot at the Midland Counties AA Championships and Open Combined Events Meeting at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
The multi-eventer achieved an overall personal-best score of 4,115 points to finish second in the field of seven competitors.
Fixtures this weekend include the West Cheshire AC Open Junior Cross Country Races at Stanney Track. Entry costs 50p per person.
