JOHN Woodrow was top rod in the Upton AC match at Lingmere Fishery.

With mainly carp weighing 29-3-0, he beat Phil Hardman with likewise for 18-7-0 and Frank Flavell with more carp for 17-12-0.

Phil Cross won the Willaston AC match on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal at Maghull. His roach and perch weighing 2-3-0 was enough to beat Gordon Griffiths with likewise for 2-2-0 and Mike Jones with a 1-8-0 perch.

Steve Openshaw won the Tuesday Rovers AC match on the Milton Green Fishery. He ended with carp to weigh 41-0-0 to see off Les Picken and Sam Kennedy, who were joint second with carp catches weighing 24-8-0 each.

Wirral Borough Council AC were out of form in the Winsford Winter League match on the River Weaver. On a dour day, they finished 11th and drop to 11th in the league too. Ken Stuart weighed in with 4-7-0 of roach while Keith Williamson took 1-8-0, Rick Keeley 1-5-0 and Ken Pickup 0-7-0.

There was only one weigher in the Grosvenor Estate AC match on a private brook at Aldford. Ron Evans took dace to weigh 0-8-0.

Reg Williams struck lucky in the Holt and Farndon AC match on the River Dee at Holt. Drawing his favourite peg, he won with small roach and dace for 10-6-0, beating Simon Loyley and Ben Pridden each with 9-14-0 of the same.

Dave Blackburn topped the Chester Telecoms AC features match on the Rook and Meadow pools at Hampton Springs Fishery. A bag of carp weighing 40-8-0 gave him victory over Whiston Duckers with a carp and barbel mix for 32-4-0 and Mike Hughes with four carp weighing 28-12-0.

First went to Ron Kinsella in the Wednesday match on the Tarvin Sands Fishery. He caught carp and bream to weigh 53-8-0, beating Wendy Locker's 26-4-0 of mainly carp and Chris Hanagan with 26-10-0 of carp.

John Howe won the Lobol A match on the River Weaver at Newbridge, taking skimmers and roach to weigh 4-13-0. Frank Hughes followed with 4-9-0 and Terry Nolan with 4-7-0.

Jeff Williams was number one in the Rake and Pikel AC match on the Aerosol length of the River Weaver at Winsford. His all-roach catch tipped the scales at 4-2-0, just ahead of Jeff Edge with the same for 4-1-0 and Billy Jones with 3-6-0.

Gary Sparks was the winner in Burton Mere Fishery's carp-only match. He ended with a brace weighing 19-0-0. His best was a 12-0-0 carp and all were taken to a home-made boilie. Runner-up was Steve Hubbard with a single carp of 11-0-0 with Chris Lunt bringing up the rear with 6-8-0.
