A RUNNING club for women of all ages will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2007 - and is looking for new members to mark the occasion.
Widnes Wasps Ladies Running Club has helped hundreds of women to run and keep fit in a safe, fun and social environment.
Based at Widnes Recreation Club in Liverpool Road, the club offers opportunities for women of all levels of ability, from the complete beginner to the experienced runner, with members regularly competing in fun runs and races at all distances from 5k to marathons.
Joanne McGillicuddy, club treasurer, said: 'Running is a great way to get fit or stay fit, have fun and make friends.
'There are lots of other good reasons for women to run - it's one of the best exercises for weight management, can help prevent osteoporosis, helps keep the heart, lungs and circulation healthy and can boost self esteem and confidence.'
The club meets at the Rec on Tuesdays and Sundays, with special arrangements to look after beginners at its Tuesday sessions.
Joanne added: 'On Sunday mornings we tend to run longer distances - up to 10 miles and beyond - but we will always do our best to accommodate every runner and often newer members can 'buddy up' to do shorter runs.' The club draws its membership from places including Widnes, Run-corn, St Helens, Prescot, Warrington and Helsby.
They meet at 6.30pm on Tuesday and 9.45am on Sunday.
