NINETEEN senior men turned out to represent Wirral AC at the second race of this year's Liverpool and District league.

And with seven finishers in the first 30, Wirral AC finished the day with 123 points in second place behind winners Liverpool Harriers.

West Cheshire were third on 214 points nearly 100 adrift of Wirral. This result will consolidate their second place overall.

The league competition was held in conjunction with the Reebok Cross Challenge which doubled as the trials for the European Championships. Races were run over a course at Sefton Park, very different in nature to that of the first race in the L and D League.

Leading Wirral home again was Jon Hunt who finished in ninth place in a time of 33.23min. Steve Spence was second counter home completing the course in 16th place (34.12min).

Then in close order to complete the count came Doug McIver in 22nd (34.56min), Kevin Buxton in 24th (35.26min), Eain Robinson one place behind in 25th (35.36min) and Mark Hulmston, a further two places back in 27th (35.38min).

Mark closed the team count for Wirral AC. Just missing the count was Leon Foster in 30th place. Some more close packing followed in the 30s with Chris Standige 33rd, Mark Bayliss 36th, Tony Devoy 37th and Gary Brookes 38th.
