WHITBY Sports and Social Club played host to an evening of high-class amateur boxing.

The show was arranged by Paul Butler Senior of Wirral Community Police Boxing Club, formerly Vauxhall Motors ABC.

Of the home boxers in action, Jamie Kelly was outstanding while Jack Tidd and Matty Fagan also impressed.

Tidd was involved in an excellent set-to with Tuebrook’s Louis Healey. Surviving an early trip to the canvas in the first round, the Wirral fighter recovered to run out a clear winner.

Club-mate Kelly went through the gears against Dale Doody (Wednesbury) and delivered a masterclass victory against an opponent who showed great heart.

The match-up between Fagan and ERT’s Ryan Mulchay demonstrated boxing at its technical best.

The bout – the best of the night – ebbed and flowed but never lost its intensity, with Mulchay winning on points.

Wirral CPBC’s Eddy Thompson defeated David Still (Tower Hill) on points, while home fighter Alex Foulkes failed to get to grips with Paul Gibney (Bolden) and lost on points.

Jack McEvoy and Will Fewtrell recorded wins for the host club over Gareth Bailey (Anfield) and Tommy Lehart (Llandudno), but there were defeats for Wirral’s Tony Moore, Sam Millington, Kieran McGough, Miles Tunstall and Adam Wynne.
