ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC have sewn up a clean-sweep of victories.

Club members clinched top awards after the final round of the West Cheshire AC Open Junior Cross Country Race Series was staged at a wintry Stanney track, Ellesmere Port.

Alex Kirk, Jessica Veevers, Joseph O'Riordan, Alice Jennings, Bradley Edwards, Abbie Noble, Michael Lyness, and Rebecca Grimes won individual awards after the four-round series was completed.

Alex celebrated success in the Under 9s boys race - his third victory of the series - by beating runner-up and clubmate James McMahon, and third-placed Benedict Jenkins, representing Our Lady's School, Ellesmere Port.

Jessica clinched the U9 girls' award, finishing ahead of runner-up Holly Tidd, from Warrington AC, and third-placed Ceri Sargeant, from Little Sutton.

In the U11 boys section, Joseph posted second spot behind Halton and Frod-sham AC's Robert McGeachie, with Thomas Wedge pupil, Sam Minshall, in third spot.

Joseph finished as the overall winner, ahead of West Cheshire AC clubmates Alex Jenkins, and Aaron Williams, who finished second and third respectively.

Tessa McCormick won the U11 girls' race ahead of runner-up and West Cheshire AC clubmate Alice Jennings, with Francesca Wright in third.

Alice claimed the overall winners' prize, ahead of runner-up Heidi Williams, and third-placed Francesca Wright.

Tom Booth worked hard to finish second in the U13 boys race behind eventual winner Alex Smith, from Warrington AC, with West Cheshire's Michael McCormick in third spot.

Tom Booth finished third overall behind West Cheshire clubmate Bradley Edwards who won the opening three rounds, and runner-up Alex Smith.

Abbie Noble toasted her third victory of the season in the U13s race to claim the top award finishing in front of runner-up Jessica Bailey, from Wrexham AC, and third-placed West Cheshire

Josh Kinch, from City of Stoke AC, won the U15 boys' fourth round race, ahead of West Cheshire duo Michael Lyness and Jack Stones in second and third positions.

Michael Lyness won the overall top prize ahead of second-placed Jack Stones, and Louis Humphreys in third position.

Rebecca Grimes won the U15 girls' overall award ahead of West Cheshire AC clubmates Laura Stott and Emily Fisher who finished second and third respectively. nEllesmere Port shot-putter Nicola Gore represented Preston at the British Universities Games and hit a season's best of 11.20m to finish ninth. nWest Cheshire's Rebecca Grimes, Georgina Wright, and Charlotte Roach will compete for Cheshire at the English Schools' Cross Country Championships at Mansfield, on Saturday, March 25. Rebecca Grimes, Georgina Wright, and Charlotte Roach will travel to the East Midlands.
