ANGLING: CHESTER'S Winston Duckers made a long trip worthwhile when he travelled to Port Talbot docks, South Wales, for the Welsh Civil Service match.

He finished in second place, taking 30lbs 12oz of skimmers to book a place in the Welsh national team to fish the final next month.

Tarporley AA came out on top in their return match against Wyche AA at Oulton Mill pool. After losing the first leg, they came back strongly, led by Jack Williams who weighed in 42-8-0 of carp, supported by Ian Roberts with 40-6-0 of carp and Richard Nelson with 22-10-0 of carp.

Tarporley totalled 142lbs to Wyche's 123-14-0, but lost on aggregate 198lbs to 164lbs.

Cestrian AC fished the Golden Nook length of the SU Canal at Waverton where Mark Ashton topped with 4lbs of small fish. Alan Heaney had 2-12-0 and Dave Ashton and John Cliffe each took 2-1-0.

Maurice Molloy won the Lobol AC match at Meadow View Fishery with a 25lbs mix. Dave Wilcocks was his nearest rival with 15-4-0 of carp and roach, while Sid Robinson took a similar bag weighing 15lbs.

Victory in the Grosvenor Estates AC match on the serpentine went to Ron Evans with a brace of tench making up most of his 7-12-0 total. Brian Summerville had a 4lbs mixture and Norman Cadman took 0-10-0 of roach.

Alan Williams was a clear winner of the Saltney Social AC match on the marina length of the Weaver with 5-12-0 of perch, roach and gudgeon. Kenny Davies was next with 1-1-0 of perch and Cyril Knobbs took 0-15-0 of small fish.

Mark Mealing had a narrow victory in the Greyhound, Saughall AC match on the park length of the Sankey-St Helens Canal. His 4-12-0 mixture just edged out Steve Bampton with 4lbs of tench. Dennis Bailey was third with 3-12-0 of small fish.

Members of Blacon Social Club AC worked hard for their catches on the Gravel Hill length of the Severn. Helped by a 5-10-0 barbel, Benny Cole-clough won with a 7-12-0 total, well ahead of Peter Clay's 4-15-0 of roach and dace and George Snell's 3-4-0 of small fish.

Eric Maddox led the field at the end of the Neston Match Anglers AC match at Hockory Hollows lake. With 25lbs of crucians, he was well ahead of Ian Evanson's 15-3-0, which included a 9-6-0 common carp, and Ted Evanson who had 12-8-0 of carp.

Castrol SAS went bass fishing out of Port Dinorwic and Norton Cooper and Colin Bowyer each took a 5-8-0 bass and Mark Wilkinson a 5lbs turbot.

Gary White was up front in the Rake and Pikel AS match at Border Fishery with 31-12-0 of carp, from Jeff Edge's 23lbs and Ron Rose's 20-8-0.

Andy Fletcher won the Ellesmere Port British Legion AS match at Baden Hall Fishery with 24-12-0 of carp, ahead of Mike Pearson and Reg Rickle.

Brian Woodstock took 51-7-0 of carp to win the Rivacre AC match at Hampton Springs, ahead of Dave Grimes's 28-3-0 and Steve Boyle's 21-7-0.

It was hard going in the Caldy AS match on the gooseberry hollows length of the Bridgewater Canal where Guy Silvester took top spot with 2-8-0 of roach. Paul Robinson was next with 1-11-0, edging Rob Winstanley's 1-10-0 into third spot.

Martin Berisford took carp up to 6lbs and some small fish to weigh in 20-15-0 to win the Piper AS match at Burton Mere Fishery. Tony Johnson had 20-14-0 and Phil White took 6-15-0 of small fish.

Colin Farquahar was top rod in the Burton Mere Fishery midweek open match with a carp-based 62-12-0. Steven Gerrard was next with 50-7-8 and James Declouet was third with 46-10-8.

Weights were lower in the Sunday match, Phil Hardman winning with a 27-15-0 mix from Steven Gerrard's 20-11-0 and Terry Fishgold's 19-10-0.

Les Picken was up front in the Tarvin Sands AC Tuesday match at Cheshire fishery, Tattenhall with 40-14-0 of carp and bream. Shaun Sandham had 40-10-0 and Martin Holding took 40lbs.

There is a Birkenhead Centre AC open match this Sunday on the SU Canal at Backford with an 8.30am draw. There is a ban on bloodworm and jokers and £10 entry. Bookings to 0151 639 8960.
