ANGLING: WILLASTON AC team were one of the few clubs to brave the weekend's arctic weather conditions, writes Brian Roberts.

In a Jack Purchase Winter League match on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Maghull, they finished seventh, with their top rod of the day Keith Wilson runner-up in his section with roach weighing 8-1-3.

Barry Davies supported with 1-8-0 of roach as did Tony Churchill with 1-1-0.

Ellesmere Port members of Wirral Borough Council AC team were the cornerstones of victory in last Sunday's knockout match in the Angling Times Super Cup series on the River Weaver at Meadowbank.

Their opponents were Warrington's Richmond and Penketh teams.

Wirral carried the day in grand style amassing 15 points - well clear of Richmond with 11 and Penketh on nine.

Leaders for Wirral BC were Kenny Stuart, who was second on the day with roach weighing 2-6-0, followed by his son Jamie in third on 5-0-0 of roach. Mark Greasley was section winner with 1-8-0 of roach.

Despite the snow and treacherous conditions Lingmere Fishery managed to stage both of their open matches, with Robbie Woods coming out on top in the Thursday contest.

He took carp and chub to weigh 19-6-0, ahead of Martin Dewhurst with similar for 16-15-0.

Leader in their Saturday match was Gary Bough on 43-8-0 of carp and barbel. He beat Martin Dewhurst on 40-10-0 and Jimmy Dewhurst with more of the same for 34-6-0.

Chatsworth Angling Fair will be held this year at Chatsworth House, near Bakewell in Derbyshire, on Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21.
