WILLASTON AC dropped down two places to ninth after struggling in the Middlewich Spring League on the Trent and Mersey Canal.

Their top weighers were Gordon Griffiths with 4-9-6 of roach and gudgeon, Phil Cross with 3-2-8 and Mike Lomax with 1-6-5.

Peter Smith of Ellesmere Port had a rod-bending session at Milton Green Fishery. His catch included a 17-8-0 common carp plus eight other carp up to 10-0-0, all to floating bread crust.

Graham Aveyard was top rod at the Wirral Borough Council AC match on Edwards Lake at Cudmore Fishery.

With a carp-based catch taken to pellet weighing 48-0-0 he easily beat Peter Walsh with mainly carp for 23-10-0 and Andy Walsh with a mixed 22-8-0.

Steve Openshaw claimed victory in Lingmere Fish-ery's Thursday open match with a carp weighing 72-14-0.

He saw off Lee Saville with mixed 53-14-0 and Steve Balsom with 33-6-0.

Phil Ashdown took the Saturday match with a carp-based 76-2-0, beating Steve Openshaw with carp for 73-12-0 and John Armour with 50-0-0 of carp.

Dan Jervis of Neston struck lucky at Burton Mere Fishery when he took a 17-10-0 mirror carp to mackerel bait.

Partridge Lakes fishery in Warrington was the venue for Ellesmere Port British Legion AC.

Andy Fletcher won the match with carp and chub weighing 12-11-0, bettering Lee Taylor with likewise for 11-15-0 and Steve Andrews on 10-12-0 of the same.
