FOUR West Cheshire AC juniors were in action at the English Schools' Cross Country Championships.
Becky Grimes, Georgina Wright, Charlotte Roach and Louis Humphreys travelled to Mansfield at the weekend to represent Cheshire.
Becky lined up in the intermediate girls race and finished 130th overall which helped her county squad secure fourth team position.
Georgina negotiated the junior girls race to finish 181st and hoisted Cheshire into seventh team position.
Charlotte secured 107th and fourth spot in the Cheshire senior girls team, alongside Emma Leigh Heighway who finished 90th and second in the Cheshire team.
Louis Humphreys completed the Chester and Ellesmere Port club's contingent after finishing 174th in the intermediate boys race.
Louis was joined by Helsby High School's Lawrence Walker who finished 12th helping the county team into sixth.
Jason McGonigle was the other local athlete in action, leading the Cheshire senior boys' team into fourth.
Jason, an Upton High pupil who lives in Ellesmere Port, finished 34th and was the first home for Cheshire. nGraham MacNeil helped West Cheshire AC's men retain top spot in the Borders Road Running League.
He finished fourth and clocked 24mins seven seconds for the 4.5-mile course at the fourth round of the league series at Wallasey.
MacNeil was joined by Dave Tiernan (ninth in 24:49), Gary Roberts (11th in 24:57), Ken Begley (17th in 25:37), Graham Jenkins (19th in 25:48), Russell Kirk (30th in 26:32), Graham Earlam (32nd in 26:40), Gary Withers (34th in 26:45), Paul Price (56th in 28:01), Steve Parker (71st in 28:49), and Dave Hough (103rd in 30:42).
Laura O'Marah led the West Cheshire ladies' charge after finishing 12th in 32:08.
Laura was joined by Jules Bancroft (14th in 32:46), Lisa Davies (17th in 33:08) and Liz Stott (27th in 34:33) to earn Wests fourth position overall after four rounds. nWest Cheshire members are asked to attend a trials event at the Stanney track, in Ellesmere Port tomorrow (10am until noon).
The trials are organised to provide a clear picture of athletes available for selection in this season's league matches. nEntries will be accepted on the night for the Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race at Cheshire County Sports Club, Upton, on Wednesday (7pm start).
