WEST Cheshire AC made an impressive start to their Cheshire Track and Field League campaign after clinching first place in the men's match at Stockport's Woodbank Park.

Dave McKay led the way as he launched a winning throw of 50.55m in the javelin before clearing 1.55m for victory in the B high jump.

He was joined by John Manning who convincingly won his 100m sprint with a time of 11.8 seconds, and Russell Kirk who finished third in his 3,000m and second in his 800m.

The trio joined Dennis Wall to cap the day with a winning sprint relay time of 49.8 seconds.

Bradley Edwards claimed first in the 800m with a time of 2:26.0 and he was joined in the U13 age group by Jacques Humphreys who clinched second spot in both the 200m and the shot.

Michael Lyness won the U15 long jump alongside B event winner Jack Bancroft, and Michael also delivered a winning 34.08m throw in the discus. Tom Hostick completed the West Cheshire trio in this age group.

Alan Littler and Jack Stones combined for West Cheshire's U17s in 200m, 800m, and shot.

In the ladies match, Becky Grimes and Jules Wilkins teamed up to score all the points for the senior ladies as they clinched second place.

The pair claimed a double success story in the javelin with throws of

19.16m and 16.80m respectively, and the duo also completed the 3,000m.

Danielle Erskine, Jenni Potter and Alice Jennings all scored 100m victories in the U13s age group, while Abbie Noble and Danielle Erskine teamed up for long jump wins, and Emma Johnson spun the discus to

10.80m. nFixtures this weekend include the Northern Track and Field League second round at Wigan's Robin Park, on Saturday, and the UK National Young Athletes Track and Field League third round on Sunday, at Deeside.

Other forthcoming fixtures include the Peter Windell Charity Five Miles Race at Buckley this Sunday at 11am and the Birkenhead Park Five-Mile Road Race on Wednesday, June 7.
