WEST Cheshire AC won the opening round of the Northern Seniors' Track and Field League Division Three West match hosted at their Stanney Oaks track on Sunday.
The club's men's and ladies squads combined to point them into a successful start to their campaign.
Debutant sprinter Stephen Butterfield celebrated a fine double success from the 100m (11.3sec) and 200m (22.9sec) and was joined by Mark Hearn who finished second in the 100m (12.0sec) and first in the 200m (24.2sec).
Dave McKay (53.65m) and Andrew Gore (35.01m) powered the purple-vested club to maximum points from the javelin competition.
Meanwhile, John Manning (6.19m) and Carl Van Schie (5.54m) teamed up to score maximum points from the long jump event.
Fixtures this weekend include the first round of the National Young Athletes' Track and Field League at Deeside Stadium, Connah's Quay, on Sunday while the Ellesmere 10-miles Road Race takes place on Sunday (1pm).
Forthcoming events include the Thurstaston Multi-Terrain 5.5-miles race on Tuesday, May 10 (7pm) and a Trafford Track and Field Grand Prix Opening Meeting on the same evening (6.30pm).
The Christleton 5k Road Race takes place on Friday, May 13, (7.30pm) while the second of a three-round grand prix series of fixtures is being hosted by Deeside AAC, Wirral AC and West Cheshire AC at Stanney, Ellesmere Port, on Wednesday, May 25 (7pm).
The other fixture in the series is scheduled for Bebington Oval on Wednesday, August 24 (7pm).
