James McMahon and Maisie Tipping proved class acts when representing their county at Bebington Oval.

The multi-talented duo, both members of West Cheshire AC, helped book their Cheshire Schools teams a place at the English Schools Combined Events Championship Finals at Bedford on September 19 and 20.

McMahon posted no fewer than seven personal bests for second position in the senior boys decathlon with a points total of 5,869 at the North West regional round.

He clocked 11.2 seconds in the 100m, long jumped 6.54m, hit 11.72m in the shot, cleared 1.71m in the high jump, rounded 400m in 53.8 seconds, posted 15.6 seconds in the 110m hurdles, hit 33m in the discus, cleared 3.10m in the pole vault, and clocked five minutes 14.7 seconds in the 1,500m.

Tipping registered a hat-trick of new personal bests in the junior girls pentathlon for 2,586 points. She negotiated the 75m hurdles in a new best time of 12.2 seconds, powered her way to a new best of 8.34m in the shot, cleared 1.41m in the high jump, long jumped 4.33m, and rounded the 800m in a new best time of 2:37.3.

The other West Cheshire all-rounder in action was George Hyde, who posted 1,948 points in the junior boys pentathlon with 13.1 seconds in his 80m hurdles, 13.97m in the shot, 4.07m in the long jump, 1-26m in the high jump, and 2:40.3 in the 800m.

West Cheshire members posted new personal best marks at the penultimate round of the U17/U20 Youth Development Track and Field League, at Stockport’s Woodbank Park.

Standout displays came from Ethan Milligan, who cleared 1.84m for victory in the U17 men’s high jump, and Isobel Griffin Morris, who spun the U17 women’s discus to a winning mark of 40.83m. Olivia Montez-Brown delivered victories in the U20 women’s 200m (26.3), 100m hurdles (15.5) and long jump (5.62m).

Anest Muller of West Cheshire represented North Wales at the Stone 10k road race and was second home for the women’s team in a time of 41 minutes 13 seconds.

Rosemary Rogers of West Cheshire AC won the over 65 women’s age category with a time of 50 minutes 29 seconds at the Penny Lane Striders 10k road race.

Bob Freeman secured second place in the over 55 men’s age group with 42:19, ahead of Neil McIntyre (162nd in 48:10), and Mark Povey (207th in 51:35).
