Cameron Weaver celebrated success for West Cheshire AC at the seaside.

The distance runner was the first under-20 man to complete the 8.8km course at Prestatyn in the latest round of the Borders Road Running League.

Weaver finished 13th overall in the difficult wet and windy conditions with a time of 29 minutes 45 seconds.

He was supported at Prestatyn by Jeff McQueen (2nd over 45 and 19th in 30:15); Tom Booth (25th in 30:39); Neil Hershaw (32nd in 31:19); Andrew Clague (40th in 31:49); Mark Davies (43rd in 31:55); Bob Freeman (66th in 33:34); Dave Tiernan (91st in 35:37); Neil Carter (101st in 36:09); Bob Benson (107th in 36:40); Craig Richardson (128th in 38:18); Dave Hough (first over 60 man in 38:41); and Andrew Leishman (156th in 41:29). Lisa Davies (44th lady in 41:01) and Clare Mallon (50th in 42:03) were West Cheshire’s only two lady finishers.

West Cheshire’s Sonny Dean finished 66th with a time of 12:51 in the under 13 boys race at the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Cofton Park, Birmingham.

He represented Cheshire alongside Jack Chapman (96th in 13:02), and under 13 girl Eve Duret (200th in 14:51). Issy Clarke completed the U15 girls race in 154th spot with 21:12, while her sister Katie clocked 24:34 for 156th place in the U17 women’s race.

Cameron Weaver was 164th with 22:14 in the U17 men’s race, and Ellen McMahon was 141st in the U20 women’s race with 33:14.

Twelve West Cheshire members represented Cheshire at the North West Regional Sportshall Championships held at Sportcity, Manchester. The Cheshire U15 boys team qualified for the national final, while Cheshire’s U15 girls, U13 girls and U13 boys all finished runners-up.

Fixtures this weekend include the English Schools Cross Country Championships, on Saturday, at Witton Park, Blackburn, and the British Masters Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Ruthin.

The Northern and England Athletics Indoor Combined Events Championships take place on Saturday and Sunday at Sheffield.

Entries are now being accepted for the Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race which is being organised by West Cheshire AC on Wednesday, April 15, from Cheshire County Sports Club (7pm start). Online entries are being taken at: www.wcac.niftyentries.com.

Tatts runners out in force

The weekend saw members of Tattenhall Runners clock up many miles.

Simon Ellis ran 127.5km across Gran Canaria, finishing the mammoth challenge in 128th position in 23 hours and 17 minutes. Closer to home, Pete Taylor completed his first marathon in the swift time of 2:55, impressively finishing the Wrexham course in 15th position. The Borders League fixture in Prestatyn was a good team effort. Andy Sudlow was first back in seventh place, followed by teammates Rob Arden (38th), Tim Charmley (143rd), Rod Jones (144th), James Jenkins (145th), Martin Durrant (156th), Dave Oldfield (180th), Rob Webster (185th) and Steve Hammond (192nd). First lady home was Georgina Ross in 69th.
