ANGLING: WENDY Locker collected more global medals last weekend when she helped England win the world ladies' title at Furzton Lake, Milton Keynes.

But she narrowly missed out of an individual gold by just 300 grams, settling for silver.

Wendy, who lives in Hoole and runs the Chester Tackle Locker shop in Great Boughton, pole-fished bloodworm to take 4,500 grams of roach on the first day and the following day she returned another roach catch weighing 3,090 grams.

John Woodrow chalked up another win in the Airbus, Broughton AC match at Partshull Park Fishery, putting 19lbs of roach, perch and skimmers on the scales. Roy Price was next with 15-8-0 and Richard Parry third with 14-7-0.

Both local teams in the Crewe and District Summer League improved their title chances following Sunday's match on the SU Canal at Hodnet. Chester Tackle Locker won the team and individual competitions, Paul Rose their top rod taking six chub to caster for 11-10-0. They are now joint third overall. Willaston AC were runners-up and moved up three places to eighth. their leader was James Hughes with 6-9-0 of small fish.

A catch of three barbel weighing 11-3-0 gave victory to Steve Bridson in the Ermine AC match on the Severn at Bridgnorth. Next was John Croft with a 7-14-0 barbel in his 8-7-0 total, with Steven Kirby third with a 5-1-8 barbel.

Reg Williams took the honours in the Grosvenor Estates AC match on the Dee at Challoner's meadow with 3-4-0 of small fish. Willie Jones was next with 3-1-0 and Ron Evans third with 1-3-0.

Alec Woods was a convincing winner of the Railway, Barrow AC match on the showground length of the Severn at Gravel Hill. He had a 6lbs barbel and pike of 6lbs and 1lb in his 13-4-0 total. Ken Cory had a 4-8-0 mixture for second place with Bob Ruscoe third with 4-4-0.

Weights were hard to come by in the Egerton Arms AC match on the Wervin length of the SU Canal. Paul Morrelle was top with 0-6-8 of roach and perch from Phil Dawson's 0-6-0 and Paul Spencer's 0-3-8.

Phil White called the tune in the Piper AC match at Tattenhall's Cheshire Fishery with a carp-based 15-10-0. Mike White was next with 8-6-0 and Keith Saunders third with 6-14-0.

Billy Mason collected top spot in the Neston Match Anglers AC match at Brookside Fishery with 41-2-0 of carp. Ted Evanson was next with 25-4-0 from Les Hall, who had 19-2-0.

Victory in the Caldy AS match at Lloyd's Meadow Fishery went to Paul Robinson with 55-14-0 of carp up to the 6lbs mark, using pellet. Neil Briscoe had 41-10-0 and Guy Silvester 33-8-0.

Steve Gerrard landed a double in Burton Mere Fishery open matches. On Wednesday last week he secured a carp-based 59-5-0 to beat Gary Bough's 50-7-0 and James Declouet's 49-8-0, and on Sunday his 34-12-0 of carp comfortably beat Martin Preston, who had 18-12-0, and Winston Duckers with 17-9-0.

Les Picken was the leader at the end of the Tarvin Sands AC match at Cheshire Fishery with 47lbs of carp. Shaun Sandham was next with 42lbs with Roy Hawksley third with 19lbs. The Dee between the weir and the Crook 'o' Dee above Eccleston Ferry is booked for the Environment Agency's regional championship match on Saturday, September 6. Non-competitors are requested to avoid this area.

Rivacre AC went to the Sankey-St Helens Canal where Billy Gore netted bream up to 3-8-0 for a total of 36-5-0, to beat Ciggy Butler's 10-11-0 of roach and Mark Greasley's 9-12-0 of roach and eels.

Sid Robinson was top in the Lobol AS match at the Hampton Springs Fishery with 44-8-0 of carp and tench, beating Martin Grafton's 36-4-0 mixture and Ray Cossins's 32-2-0.

Peter Jones struck lucky in the Greyhound, Saughall AC match at Hampton Springs Fishery. He not only won the match with 23-8-0 of carp and tench, he also drew the golden peg and collected £100. Second was John Peters with 18-2-0 of carp from Steve and Dave Bampton, who each had 15-1-0 of carp.

Steve Bampton won the Connah's Quay AS match at Wepre with two 10lbs carp, the bulk of his 24-8-0 total.

Dave Allen was the leader in the Cheshire Police Flyfishers' match at Brenig with six rainbows weighing 10lbs. Gary Fowles had 9-14-0 and Mike Wellman 9-4-0.

Phil Stokes was the winner of the Chester Police AC match on the Weaver at meadow island with 5lbs of roach and perch, beating Mark Greasley's 4-8-0 of roach and Neil Jukes's 3-6-0 of roach and perch.

Albert Peak landed six rainbows weighing 8-11-0 to win the North West Flyfishers' match at Cound Reservoir. Richard Hudd was next with 8-4-0 and Phil Burgess landed 7-10-0.

White Lion AS went to Carnarvon where Len Hodkiss landed a 13lbs pollock to beat Steve Amos's 10lbs pollock and Brian Howard who had a 9lbs pollock.

FISHERIES NEWS Burton Mere: Twelve-year-old Tom Carr, of Neston, coaxed a 21lbs common carp to a boilie; Andrew Wilkie, of Ellesmere Port, tempted a 20-12-0 catfish and a 16lbs catfish; and John Kay, of Neston, lured a 38-4-0 catfish and a 14-3-0 common carp using an assinate boilie.

Meadow: Bill Jones, of Ellesmere Port, took a brace of rainbows weighing 4-8-0 and 4lbs to a black buzzer.

Cheshire: Sixteen-year-old Stuart Hubbard, of Ellesmere Port, landed 312lbs of carp between 2lbs and 9lbs in a 36-hour session. All the fish were taken to a squidd boilie or luncheon meat.

Four Oaks: Steven Hughes, of Saughall, netted carp up to 5lbs and tench to 2lbs using red maggot or caster.

Dearnford Hall: Neil Harding, of Chester, lifted a 6-14-0 rainbow, their best of the week, using a gold-headed damsel-fly nymph.

Forest Hill: Roy Davey, of Wirral, lifted a 5-6-0 rainbow to a worm.

Harthill: A Beatty, of Blacon, landed 27 carp up to 17lbs, including four double-figure fish using trout pellet.
