ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC took part in the first round of the Young Athletes League at Victoria Park, Warrington, and came away in fourth place.
Many of the regular athletes were missing from the boys' team but they still managed to come away with two Man of the Match awards, which were presented to James Callaghan and Gareth Preston who are both in the U15s category.
Several athletes were making their debuts in this competition and there were many pleasing graded performances.
Jennifer Kelly ran a splendid 3,000m race to come home first, and Lewis Dodson stepped into the breach in his age group to volunteer his services in the 200m and the 4x100m relay. James Ellis rushed to the competition, arriving with minutes to spare for the start of his first event, after playing in a football match on Sunday morning.
Owen Roach also got to his feet to finish his hurdles race, after falling heavily halfway through. Winning efforts came from Georgina Wright, Daisy Flynn-Piercey, Sian Kelman, Rebecca Grimes, Jennifer Kelly, Helen Clowes, Tricia Jackson, Amanda Scott, Catriona Boyd, Charlotte Roach, James Callaghan, Gareth Preston, Lewis Dodson, Matthew Kenny, Tom Price, Martin Jones, Andy Ravenscroft and Carl Van Schie.
Grades performances were achieved by Sarah Rowlands and Georgina Wright (800m), Zarah Hodder (150m), Daisy Flynn-Piercey and Sian Kelman (100m), Stephanie Owens (shot), Ruth Pritchard (high jump and 800m), Rebecca Grimes (800m), Rachel Stoakley (200m), Amanda Scott (800m), Nick Rushton (100, 200m), Aidan Stoakley (100m, long jump), James Ellis (800m) and Michael Lyness (800m, long jump), Gareth Preston (100m, long jump), James Callaghan (discus, javelin, hammer), Tom Price (100m, 200m) and Carl Van Schie (100m hurdles).
