CHESTER Sailing and Canoe Club celebrated a successful year at their annual dinner.

The canoe section has had a good 2012, with the top two juniors excelling in marathon and sprint. David Hatton and Jake Oldfield were promoted into higher divisions.

Senior veterans Melvin Swallow and Bob Scholey represented Great Britain at the World Championships in Rome, with Melvin taking the world 60-65 title.

Mark Tidman won Chester’s inter-club Barrel Series.

K2 partners Jean Ashley and Adele Blakeborough had an excellent ultra marathon race (63 miles), from Glasgow to Edinburgh. They won the ladies event and set a new record of nine hours and 16 minutes.

There were good results for white water racing paddlers Dave Bradburn and Brian McNulty.

The pair took bronze at the World Wildwater Championships in La Plange, France, and won the C1 event at the Liffey Descent.

Club members enjoyed helping out and visiting Olympic canoe venues.
