ATHLETICS: WEST CHESHIRE AC's youngsters pulled out all the stops at Deeside on Sunday.
The purple-vested squad won their fifth round match in the Young Athletes North West Division One League staged at Deeside Stadium, Connah's Quay, against Holmfirth, Leigh, and Trafford.
There were no fewer than nine victories recorded by West Cheshire AC under 13 girls.
Daisy Flynn Piercy and Rosa Palmieri posted a double success story in the 100m; Shona Valentine grabbed victory in the 150m; Stephanie Owens and Shona Valentine hit maximum points in the shot; Ruth Pritchard and Kerry Riley bagged top marks from the long jump; and Ruth partnered Stephanie Owens to success in the high jump.
Stephanie, Daisy and Shona were then joined by Rebecca Grimes to capture victory in the 4x100m relay.
Lauren Hunt was the star of the show in the under 15 age group after securing a terrific throwing hat-trick from the shot, discus, and javelin.
Fawn Beddows (100m) and Rachel Stoakley (200m) bagged victories, and were supported by Heather Heighway, Kelly Money, Louise Woodward, and Helen Clowes; and the quartet of Fawn, Louise, Helen and Rachel won the 4x100m relay.
Emma-Leigh Heighway demonstrated her tenacity to post successes in both the under-17 girls 800m and 3000m. Catriona Boyd won her 80m hurdles and 300m hurdles races, and Tricia Jackson captured victories from the 3000m and javelin events.
Gareth Preston illustrated his potential with a double success story from the under 13 boys 100m and long jump. His long jump of 5.24m was a grade one performance.
He was accompanied by Jeremy Wilderspin, Jeremy Stothart and Oliver Ward to clinch a 4x100m relay win, while Thomas Lowndes and Michael Heighway added valuable points.
Tom Price and James Callaghan spearheaded West Cheshire under 17 boys charge for points with hat-trick successes.
Tom bagged maximum points from the 100m, long jump, and high jump, while James secured victories from the hammer, discus, and javelin.
Carl Van Schie won both the 80m hurdles and high jump; Peter Doyle had an 800m success; Sam Bateson claimed the 80m hurdles B race win; and other B event victories were clinched by Tom Justice (hammer); Jason McGonigle (javelin); and Sean Boyd (long jump). Other point contributors included Matthew Kenny, and Andrew Stothart.
Chris Rushton (100m hurdles), and Tim Wilderspin (triple jump), enjoyed maximum point appearances in the under 17 boys age group.
