THERE is nothing like a dame for a sporting Northwich schoolgirl.

Victoria Anderson, a pupil of The Queen's School, Chester, has won the chance to be coached by the double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, who will visit Victoria and her classmates early next year.

The 12-year-old entered a competition run by the Persil 'Be My Coach' campaign, submitting a photograph of herself and her friends using a skills ball in an alternative game of hockey. The un-usual rubber ball has been designed never to bounce in the same direction twice, so the girls had to use their hockey skills to control it.

Victoria, who enjoys playing most sports and excels at hockey, lacrosse, rounders, tennis, football, athletics and gymnastics, said: 'I wanted to have as many people as possible playing with the ball in the photo, so we used it in a hockey team practice session.

'I never expected to win and I'm very excited about being coached by such a famous sportswoman!'

Chris Moore, head of PE, said: 'Victoria is a very dedicated, reliable and committed sportswoman.

'I am delighted that she has won this exciting opportunity to be trained by Dame Kelly.'
