ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC's veterans bagged a top-12 place in the British Masters 8x3-mile Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park, Birmingham, at the weekend.

Competing against more than 70 other teams, WCAC's times were - Graham McNeil (16 minutes 10 seconds), Paul Frodsham (16:03), Graham Jenkins (16:34); Andy Starkey (16:49), Graham Earlam (16:58), Ken Begley (16:25), Paul Price (17:31) and Gary Roberts (16:39).

Several WCAC juniors completed the Shell Chester Half Marathon Family Fun Run at The Roodee on Sunday.

Kerry Riley and Gemma Mayled finished first and second respectively in the girls' race, and Tom Lowndes was West Cheshire AC's first boy to cross the line.

Cheshire Tigers continued their campaign at Bebington Oval on Sunday in the second round of the National U20 Junior Track and Field League.

Sam Appleby, of WCAC, negotiated the 400m hurdles in a winning time of 66.3 seconds for maximum points in the A race as the girls' squad finished fourth on the day with 170 points.

Andrew Ellis demonstrated his strength and stamina with success in the 2,000m steeplechase with a time of 6:29.2 in the A race.

Stephen Butterfield continued his comeback after injury last season by posting a B 100m victory in a time of 11.4 seconds.

Tom Price added valuable B 200m points after clocking 23.6 seconds, while Tom Wild finished second in the B steeplechase with a time of 6:39.9.

The Cheshire Tigers men's team finished fifth on the day. WCAC have been awarded the prestigious 'Clubmark' distinction. More details next week.
