HOCKEY: CREWE Vagrants men's second team vice-captain Rob Jepson hopes his team can take friendly form into league battle in the New Year.

The outfit lie second from bottom of the North West Men's League Division Four at the Christmas break and have secured just one win in 10 outings so far this campaign.

But rather than sulk through their festive period, Vagrants set up a pair of friendly fixtures in a bid to regain their confidence. And it worked a treat as they walloped Bramhall seconds 7-1 on Saturday.

Jepson bagged a brace, as did Greg Alcock, while Henry Weir, Ben Rigby and Danny Oakes weighed in with one each to compete the rout.

With another friendly at Northop Hall this Saturday, Jepson hopes another win can help Crewe turn around their season struggle.

He said: 'We played well on Saturday and it was a fairly one-sided affair. I think it is what we needed and we like to keep playing as long as we can before Christmas.

'We are struggling in the table but I think we have the players and the skill level to do well.

'But simple mistakes and individual errors have cost us and our heads have dropped.

'It was obvious to see that everyone felt better after the win on Saturday and the confidence gained from that will do us a world of good.'
