SNOOKER: IN AN exciting match at the top of Chester League's Liberal Division, leaders United Services A beat second-placed St Theresa's B.

Saints started well with Robbie Hayes comfortably beating Paul Ellis, but the inexperience of young Mike Metcalf told against the very capable Dave Sharpes.

Alan Platt was in top form against Barry Charker and when Gerry Bye-water came back against Wayne Amey to take the pink and black for the frame, Saints were up against it.

Peter Sheppard pulled one back to make it 3-2, but Mark Roberts put in a 35 break to beat Mike Davies and give Services a deserved 4-2 win.

Conservative go second after a 6-0 win over Liberal. They started as they finished with Lea Dagher making a 49 break in the opening frame and Neal Jones finishing with a clearance of 92 in the last frame.

Dave Smith, Mike Fisher, Steve Williams and Eddie Jenkins all won comfortably.

United Services C went down 2-0 to Snooker Centre before rallying and winning the next four, thanks to Paul Lewis, Tony McKevitt, Geoff Cadogan and Martin Walsh (54 break).

Wings A are third after a good 5-1 win against Upton RBL A

In the Chester City Transport Division, St Werburgh's went top, beating Electric 4-2. Tom Donnelly, Mike Griffiths, Neil Cardus and Mike Jones scored for Werburgh's with Dave Allen and Mark Griffiths replying.

Christleton showed good form in coming away from a strong Conservative B side with a win thanks to Steve Powell, Mike Craig, Mark Adams and Mark Cooke.

Wings B had a resounding win at Upton D by 5-1 and Waverton A did well to hold CCO. Bill McClimmonds and Tom Jones put Waverton 2-0 up, but John Cunningham and Phil Heanet levelled for the hosts.

Chris Connelly put Waverton ahead with hopes of their first win, but Colin Hargreaves ruined the celebrations by beating John Ireland.

Upton B had the best result in the Supreme Cleaners Division with a 5-1 win over Conservative C.
