ANGLING: JOHN Tyreman hit top form to win Sunday's Burton Mere Fishery Winter League open match on the beech and willow pools.

He drew a peg on the willow pool to land 29lbs 5 oz of carp to finish well ahead of Peter Price with 19-7-0 of carp and skimmers. James Declouet was third with 18-11-0.

The winner of their midweek open was Simon Walker, who took 27-14-0 of carp from the beech pool, ahead of Steve Boyd's 21-4-0 mixture and Gary Bough's 11-5-0 of carp.

The Airbus, Broughton AC were the high flyers at the end of the Angling Times KO Super Cup series against Ellesmere Port British Legion and Warrington-based Richmonds AC, at Lloyd's Meadow Fishery. Airbus had a 30lbs advantage over the runners-up Richmonds, thanks to Dave Ward with 45-12-0 of carp and Mark Mealing with 40-1-0 of carp. Top for Ellesmere Port was Mike Pearson with 28-13-0 of carp, followed by John Ryder's 6lbs carp.

Willaston AC struggled in Sunday's Seacat Super League on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal between Maghull and Lydiate. They were 11th out of 15 teams, led by Brian Woods with 1-12-0 of small roach and perch, Charlie Smith with 0-12-0 of small fish and Tony Churchill with 0-5-0.

Gary Ball was up front in Saturday's Hampton Springs Fishery open match with 36-8-0 of carp, beating Barry Gabriel's 30-4-0 and Dave Artell's 28-8-0 mixture of carp and tench. In the Sunday match, Keith Bean took second spot with 30-4-0 from his long island peg, while Gary Vincent was third with 24-2-0 of carp and skimmers.

The Grosvenor Estate AC pike match on the Eaton Hall serpentine was won by Brian Welsh with seven fish weighing 51lbs, the best a 12-14-0, all taken with a leadhead spinner. Second was Danny Mort with an 11-6-0 pike, while Teddy Randles and Janet Williams hooked the same fish, a 10-8-0 pike, which took their dead baits in quick succession.

Dennis Bailey, of Chester Tackle Locker, won the Tuesday pensioners' match on the meadow island length of the Weaver with 1-4-0 of small roach. The following day, he was third in the allcomers' open match on the marina length of the Weaver with 13lbs of roach.

Kenny Stewart landed top spot in the Wirral Borough Council AC match on the marina length of the Weaver with 11-8-0 of roach, ahead of Brian Woodall's 9-11-0 of roach and Graham Aveyard's 6-4-0.

Wendy Locker was a convincing winner of the Tarvin Sands AC match at Tattenhall's Cheshire Fishery with a ghost carp-based 65-4-0. Shaun Sandham was next with 35-8-0 of ghost carp and Les Picken followed with 18lbs of carp.

The Thursday match switched to Milton Green Fishery where Martin Holding took the honours with 73lbs of carp. Mike Flanaghan was next with 64-8-0 and Ellick Peters third with 38lbs.

FISHERIES NEWS Burton Mere: John Carr, of Neston, bagged four double-figure carp, the best a 15-8-0 common, using a sauce boilie.

Harthill and Grove: These fisheries re-open on Monday.

Meadow: John Metcalfe, of Chester, coaxed a 4-8-0 rainbow to a montana and Peter Lowe, of Christleton, lured a 4-8-0 rainbow to a white fritz. Roy Spindler, of Chester, fished a damsel-fly nymph to take a 4-4-0 rainbow.

Milton Green: Ellesmere Port's Peter Wright netted 35lbs of carp, roach and a 3-12-0 perch using sweetcorn or maggot and caster cocktail.

Lake Hill: Paul Davies, of Ellesmere Port, took the best bag and the best fish of the week. His 9-8-0 rainbow was in a 16-fish bag, all taken with a black hopper.
